NIKKEI Decarbonization Project

Hello everyone!

We had the opportunity to participate in the “NIKKEI Decarbonization Project – Subcommittee (Youth Dialogue Session): Reflections on COP28,” held at the Phoenix Banquet Hall in the Tokyo Station Hotel.
From our team, Secretary-General Mr. Uno, Mr. Yuta Hozumi, and Mr. Naoki Okano took part in the event.

Two representatives from our organization, Youth Econet, and three from Climate Youth Japan, joined the dialogue as youth participants, along with representatives from companies involved in the project.

We introduced our organization and past activities, and discussed our perspectives on COP28 from the youth’s point of view.

One of the key topics raised was the low level of engagement by Japanese people in environmental activities.
Compared to other countries, Japan sees a smaller percentage of people actively involved in environmental efforts.

Some of the youth participants proposed reasons and possible solutions.
One reason mentioned was that Japanese people face many transitional life events such as entrance exams and job hunting, leaving them with little time or opportunity to engage in environmental issues.

As a possible solution, one proposal was to establish a government-affiliated environmental organization specifically for Japanese youth.
I personally found this idea both appealing and potentially very effective.

The two people on the right are from Youth Econet.

Moving forward, Youth Econet will continue to prioritize building strong peer-to-peer connections in all our activities.

Thank you for your continued support!
